Abdominoplasty
You’ll need to weigh up the benefits and decide whether you will achieve your goals, while also considering any potential risks or complications. These risks include anaesthetic and surgical risks. The surgical risks are those common to all surgeries such as bruising, bleeding, infection delayed wound healing and poor scars. Whilst those risks specific to abdominoplasty include seroma formation (fluid collections), altered sensation, recurrent hernia and divarication and contour anomalies. These will be discussed in more detail at the time of consultation.

What's involved?
Abdominoplasty is performed under a general anaesthetic in a hospital. A full tummy tuck begins with a horizontal incisionin the area between the pubic hairline and navel. Dr Buckland will determine the shape and length of the incision based on the degree of correction necessary. Any weakened abdominal muscles are then repaired and sutured, while excess fat, tissue and skin are removed. A second incision around the navel may be required to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen. Then, the wounds are closed with internal dissolving sutures.
Who is a good candidate for abdominoplasty?
Ideal candidates for abdominoplasty are those with realistic expectations about the aesthetic benefits of the procedure. A consultation with Dr Garry Buckland will help determine whether tummy tuck surgery will deliver the results you are seeking and ensure that you are physically and emotionally prepared to undergo this procedure.
Perhaps you have experienced one of more pregnancies resulting in weakened muscles and loose skin on the abdomen? Or maybe like some men and women, you have sagging skin and weakened muscles on the abdomen due to weight loss and aging? Abdominoplasty can offer a solution.
What are the possibilities of scarring?
A mini abdominoplasty will leave you with a minimal horizontal scar above the pubic hairline. After a full abdominoplasty, a slightly longer horizontal scar will be visible. Post operative scar management is an important part of achieving the optimum long term cosmetic result.
What about recovery after surgery?
Following surgery, dressings will be applied to your incisions, and you will be fitted with a compression garment to minimise swelling and support your abdomen as it heals. A small, thin tube will be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect. A painbuster allows the continued use of local anaesthetic to minimise postoperative pain for 12 to 24 hours, reducing the need for painkilling medication.

Liposuction (Body Contouring)
Liposuction is a surgical technique used to reshape areas of fat that exercise and diet have not been able to shift. It is a good reshaping tool but is not a substitute for weight loss. It is not an effective weight loss strategy.
Liposuction is the process of suctioning away fatty tissue through a slender stainless steel tube known as a cannula, creating tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse, slimming down specific areas.
You may have a number of queries about liposuction surgery. We invite you to contact one of our friendly team to arrange a consultation with Dr Buckland.
What's involved?
Liposuction begins as small incisions are made into the skin. First, a sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and administer local anaesthetic which reduces post operative discomfort. Dr Buckland then inserts the cannula through these incisions to loosen excess fat using a back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
Could Liposuction work for me?
Dr Buckland feels liposuction can be of benefit to those who have fatty deposits in areas of their bodies that have not responded well to dieting and exercise. So if you have realistic expectations about the possible benefits of Liposuction and you are in good health, you could be a candidate for the procedure. While liposuction is an excellent reshaping procedure, it is however not a preferred weight loss alternative.
What should I expect after surgery?
Once your procedure is completed, a compression garment will be fitted to cover treated areas. These help to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. Compression garments are usually worn for approximately six weeks and therefore we recommend Liposuction procedures are scheduled in the cooler months.
Directly after surgery you will experience bruising and swelling which will decrease rapidly over the following weeks. Any discomfort after liposuction will be controlled with oral medication.
