Liposuction (Body Contouring)

Enhancing your body contours may mean more than simply regular exercise and a healthy diet. Liposuction can sculpt specific areas of your body which do not respond to diet and exercise by removing excess fat, boosting your self image and emotional well-being.

Liposuction can take up where diet and exercise leave off. Also known as ‘liposculpture’, this procedure is able to slim and reshape specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and achieving more-balanced proportions. Some of the benefits of liposuction include:

  • Improved confidence and self esteem;
  • Improved health associated with fat loss;
  • Improved overall appearance.

Liposuction is the process of gently suctioning away fatty tissue through a slender stainless steel tube known as a cannula, creating tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse, slimming down specific areas resulting in improved body contours.

Naturally, you may have a number of queries about liposuction surgery, so we invite you to contact one of our friendly team to arrange a consultation with Dr Buckland.

What's involved?

Liposuction begins as small, inconspicuous incisions are made into the skin. First, a sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and administer local anaesthetic which reduces post operative discomfort. Dr Buckland then inserts the cannula through these incisions to loosen excess fat using a gentle back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.

Could Liposuction work for me?

Dr Buckland feels liposuction can be of great benefit to those who have fatty deposits in areas of their bodies that have not responded well to dieting and exercise. So if you have realistic expectations about the possible benefits of Liposuction and you are in good health, you could be an ideal candidate for the procedure. While liposuction is an excellent reshaping procedure, it is however not a preferred weight loss alternative.

What should I expect after surgery?

Once your procedure is completed, a compression garment will be fitted to cover treated areas. These help to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. Compression garments are usually worn for approximately six weeks and therefore we recommend Liposuction procedures are scheduled in the cooler months.

Directly after surgery you will experience bruising and swelling which will decrease rapidly over the following weeks. Any discomfort after liposuction will be controlled with oral medication.
