About Dr Chang

Dr Ling-Yun Alice Chang is a fully qualified Australian Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She has multiple appointments in both public and private adult hospitals, catering for both adult and paediatric patients.

Dr Chang performs a wide range of procedures including:

  • skin cancer resection and reconstruction
  • paediatric plastic surgery
  • otoplasty and ear reconstructive surgery
  • primary and revisional cleft lip and palate surgery
  • facial cosmetic surgery
  • cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery
  • body contouring surgery

Dr Chang has more than 10 years of plastic surgical experience in addition to another 3 years training in general surgery. As an UNSW medical graduate with honours, Dr Chang qualified as a plastic surgeon in Sydney. In pursuit of surgical excellence, Dr Chang undertook further sub-specialised training as a Craniofacial Surgery Fellow with world-renowned surgeon Professor Phillip Chen in Taipei, Taiwan. This intensive International Craniofacial Surgical fellowship focused on paediatric and adult cleft lip and palate surgery, as well as cleft rhinoplasty and secondary cleft revision surgery.

Dr Chang currently holds Visiting Medical Officer appointments at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Dr Chang is a long-time resident of the Mosman community where she lives with her young family. She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Frequently Asked Questions For Dr Chang

Do I need a GP referral for an appointment with Dr Chang?

No a referral is not necessary. However a referral from your GP or specialist may mean part of the consultation fee is rebatable from Medicare for non-cosmetic appointments. Regular GP visits are encouraged especially if you have any other health issues to optimise your general condition.

How many consultations are required prior to surgery?

For simple small procedures it is possible to proceed after one consultation. For all cosmetic or more complex procedures Dr Chang strongly encourages you to have a second consultation. This is to ensure you have had the opportunity to consider all the information provided during the first consultation and ask any further questions. During the second consultation Dr Chang will discuss the surgical plan to ensure you are fully informed before proceeding with surgery.

Can procedures be done in the rooms?

Yes simple small procedures can be done under local anaesthetic in the consulting rooms. Please let our staff know when you book your appointment to allow us to allocate adequate time for this. For more complex procedures or procedures requiring sedation Dr Chang will perform this in an accredited hospital environment with a highly skilled anaesthetist to ensure the utmost safety for you.

Does Dr Chang operate on children?

Yes paediatric plastic surgery is one of Dr Chang’s areas of special expertise. She regularly performs paediatric plastic surgery including cleft lip and palate surgery as well as microtia ear reconstruction surgery at Children’s Hospital at Westmead as well as accredited private hospitals.

Is it possible to have an all female team for my surgical procedure?

For patients who prefer to have an all female team we can arrange for an all female surgical, anaesthetic and nursing team for your hospital procedure. Please let our staff know of this request so appropriate arrangements can be made in advance.

What can I expect after surgery?

During your first consultation with Dr Chang you will have the postoperative recovery explained to you. Generally you will have several postoperative appointments to ensure your recovery is well monitored. A factsheet will be provided to you prior to your surgery to help answer common questions including what activities you can do after surgery.
